Lismore will be en fete on the May Bank Holiday, May 6, as the celebrations organised by Lismore Town Council to celebrate 400 years of the granting of the Lismore Town Charter take place.
The celebrations have a real family and community focus. A kiddies disco will start off the celebrations on Sunday evening, May 5 in the Heritage Hall (upstairs) from 6-8pm. This event is free and promises to be great fun for all the children.
From 11-11.30am on Monday May 6, Donald Brady, former County Librarian, will give a brief presentation on the ‘history of Lismore’ in the Lismore Heritage Centre.
At 12 midday, all the local clubs in Lismore town will gather at Bun Scoil Bhothar Naomh, along with the Lismore Dramatic Society and bands and will parade down Main Street to the Millennium Park.
At 1pm, in the Millennium Park, Lismore Town Mayor Julie Landers, will present all past and present Lismore Town Councillors and Town Commissioners with a special commemorative medal. The Story of Fred and Adele will be directed by James Lenane and this will be followed by a day of entertainment from The Booley House Dancers, Niamh Coleman and her teenage choir, Becky McCluskey, Ella McCluskey, Joan O’Brien and the Looney Tunes, the O’Keeffe brothers, Creative Corner by Jim Cosgrave and face painting for all the children. All the events are free. Further details of the events will be carried in next week’s paper.
