The gas tanker which was at the centre of a dangerous incident alert on Wednesday last on the R639 in Fermoy. Two units of Fermoy fire brigade attended the scene.

Motorists who spotted what they thought was fire coming from the rear of a tanker carrying gas as it travelled on the R639 through Fermoy last week, acted fast and alerted the fire service.

Two units of Fermoy fire brigade responded to the scene last Wednesday evening. It was found that the turbo engine of the HGV had gone on fire, blowing smoke back behind the vehicle.

"There was no danger to the tank carrying the gas," a fire service spokesman confirmed.
