Mallow has been chosen as one of eight locations for a regional centre for Irish Water, the body charged with providing water services once households are metered by January 2015. The regional offices are being established to support the provision of water and wastewater services with regional work associated with operations, asset management and certain capital projects being sited in the offices.
Welcoming the news, Minister of State Sean Sherlock said it was positive news for Mallow and the surrounding areas. "We have been working hard on this for some time and I am delighted that Minister Hogan sees the potential of Mallow and the North Cork area for this centre," he said.
Between 18 and 32 jobs will be created with the potential for more. "There will be scope for further positions to be created once the centre is established and recruitment will begin immediately for initial jobs," Minister Sherlock advised.
Some of the staff however, will come from within local authorities, the Department of the Environment and Bord Gáis. It's not clear how many will be created through open public recruitment. A variety of roles will be filled including operation and maintenance, capital planning, HSQE and local authority liaisons. Further information on the roles wil be available indue course on Irish Water's website www.water.ie which is being launched this Friday.
Irish Water will have two principal offices, their headquarters in Dublin and a shared services office in Cork.
