Charity marking 2.5 million kilometres of safe driving by its drivers over life of partnership
Continental Tyres Ireland has renewed its partnership with Blood Bikes Leinster for another year, continuing a relationship that has supported the charity’s lifesaving work for more than a decade.
Blood Bikes Leinster is a volunteer‑run, not‑for‑profit organisation that provides rapid‑response transport of blood, human donor breast milk, cancer treatment medication and other time‑critical medical supplies to hospitals and medical centres across the region. The charity relies entirely on public donations and corporate sponsorship, allowing ambulances and Garda vehicles to remain available for frontline emergencies.
Fergus Lennon, Regional Coordinator of Blood Bikes Leinster, said: “The Blood Bikes Leinster team have clocked up more than 2.5 million kilometres over the eleven years of our partnership with Continental Tyres, and we are delighted to report that our volunteer drivers have not had even one incident on the roads of Ireland during all that time. It’s a testament to their advanced driver training and to the safety and reliability of Continental tyres on our vehicles. We are extremely grateful for Continental’s continued support, which plays a real role in helping us deliver our service safely every single day.
“Back in the day when we started the partnership with Continental, we had a mixed fleet of motorbikes and a couple of support vehicles. But the evolution of our work within the sector has meant that we have moved fully to a car or van fleet. In a lot of instances, the sensitive materials that we transport could potentially be damaged by the vibration of a motorbike, so it is a logical step for us. As part of the evolution of our work, we have transported organs for transplant, including to and from hospitals in the UK. Such sensitive and life-saving cargo needs to be handled carefully by trained drivers who can be relied on to get the item where it needs to be safely and within agreed strict timeframes.”

As part of the renewed partnership, Continental is supplying two sets of its AllSeasonContact 2 tyres for the Blood Bikes support vehicles, helping the fleet operate reliably across a wide range of weather conditions.
