Hyundai launch Ioniq 9

Hyundai recently unveiled their new Ioniq 9, electric car to the Irish motor writers. It was a damp Monday morning at the K Club in County Kildare, but the rain couldn’t didn’t damped the excitement for the reveal.

This is a massive seven-seater that can carry seven adults in comfort and there is still plenty of room for luggage at the back.

Most of the test cars available last week were Obsidian Black, but there were also some green models available. A six-seater and all-wheel drive version will be available next year; for now we only have the seven-seater, which has a starting price  €78,495. The Korean company has used AI assist in parts of the car, but that price is real.

That is big money, but this it’s a truly a massive car and it could be used by individuals or companies who do limousine-type work. With a range of 620km you won’t run out of ‘gas’ on the way to the airport.

There has been much speculation in recent months that Chinese companies are going to take over the EV market in Europe. But last week Stepehen Gleeson, MD of Hyundai in Ireland said that that we should not be forget that Korean companies like Hyundai are producing some excellent electric cars. Hyundai have won World Car of the Year awards with their Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Inster.

A few months back Hyundai introduced their neat Inster, which is one of the cheapest fully electric cars around at €19,595 and now they also have a massive car at the other end of the price range.

I will have the Ioniq 9 for a proper test later in the month.
