
After months of planning, members of Park Utd pulled out all the stops last weekend at a series of events to mark the club’s 50th anniversary.
The rules, jerseys and hairstyles have come a long way since 1975, however, the club, its officers, all important players and loyal supporters remain steadfast in their backing of Mitchelstown’s high achieving soccer club.
It’s been a long and sometimes hard road for this volunteer led organisation, who started out with very little in the mid 1970s, indeed, there were some who predicted that interest in ‘Brigown Project’ would fizzle out and the fledgling organisation would fade from view. The opposite has been the case; backboned by deeply committed individuals, the club has embedded itself in the community and long before it was fashionable, Park Utd was an inclusive movement that embraced diversity.
