KILARA ÓG GAA CLUB

On Sunday morning last, 20/10/13 we had a short travel in to Fermoy to participate in the annual Tom McCarthy Cup. On the day there were three teams, Fermoy, Glanworth and ourselves.
Our first match was against Fermoy. We started a bit rusty since we had not done any hurling training lately. It started evenly with points being shared by both teams. The match hung in the balance for quite a while. In the end Fermoy won the match, but we could see that we had a lot more to give and looking to improve in our next match.
Next up was Glanworth. And if we could get a result here the chances for us playing in the final was good. So it was now up to the lads to lift themselves and show how good they are. And they did. We started the stronger team and took an early lead with a superb goal. The boys were now dominating all over the pitch. And we added a point towards the end of first half. As second half got under way we let up on the pace and Glanworth got back into the game and levelled the score. It took determination and team effort to go back in front. In the end victory was ours.

On Sunday morning we had a short travel in to Fermoy to participate in the annual Tom McCarthy Cup. On the day there were three teams, Fermoy, Glanworth and ourselves.

Our first match was against Fermoy and in the end, Fermoy won, but we could see that we had a lot more to give and looking to improve in our next match.

Next up was Glanworth and if we could get a result here, the chances for us playing in the final was good. So it was now up to the lads to lift themselves and show how good they are. And they did. As the second half got under way, we let up on the pace and Glanworth got back into the game and levelled the score. It took determination and team effort to go back in front. In the end victory was ours.

Fermoy accounted for Glanworth in the next match so the final would be between Fermoy and Kilara Óg. This started very even where both sides had early scoring chances. In an excellent move we struck the back of the net. We started to dominate the proceedings but Fermoy, in a decisive move, managed to level the score so at half-time we were back at square one.

Both teams were playing some beautiful and skill full hurling. Half way through the second half Fermoy finished a well worked attack with a beautiful goal. This move got them on a roll and they added another goal and a point. This is how the match ended with Fermoy winning on a scoreline of 3-1 to ours 1-0.

This match had it all and was very entertaining. We had a great turnout of players on the day. Well done, you play very well and are a credit to your families and your club.

We would like to thank Fermoy for the invitation to the competition and congratulations on your victory. Also thank you to Glanworth and the referee. And we must not forget all of our supporters, parents, coaches and mentors!
