The village of Ballyduff Upper turned out in force for last Sunday’s farewell ceremony for retiring GP, Dr. Barry Lordan.
Friends and associates, joined with patients, past and present, to formally thank Dr. Lordan for his professionalism and dedication during almost 30 years in the village.

A native of St. Luke’s on the north side of Cork City, Dr. Lordan studied at UCC before going to England, where he spent 10 years at a practice in Kent. He returned to Ireland in 1996, taking up his position in Ballyduff during the summer of that year. During his 29 years in the village he gained a reputation as an affable medic, whose judgement and expertise could be relied upon completely.

An ‘old style’ GP, he was well versed in all aspects of medicine, tending to everyone from mothers-to-be to senior citizens, in between, he treated patients for all manner of conditions and was called upon at intervals to ‘patch up’ local hurlers and other sports people.
