The issue of garda shortages in rural areas was raised in the Dáil on Tuesday this week as Deputy Mattie McGrath deplored a situation where a garda needed medical attention following a callout in Clogheen.
Gardaí confirmed that a member of the force received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries sustained following an assault in Clogheen on Tuesday of last week. The male perpetrator, in his 40s, appeared before Carrick-on-Suir District Court the next day.
Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy McGrath said it was ‘shocking’ that the garda had to go to this ‘dangerous case’ on his own to the call of a ‘dangerous individual, who has a record a mile long’.
