Fermoy will be given a reminder of the sheer pleasure and entertainment value of cinema this weekend. Fermoy Film Festival will run at the Palace Theatre at Fermoy Community Youth Centre on Ashe Quay over the three days, featuring films on Friday night at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, screenings on Saturday at 3pm, 6.30, 7.30 and 10pm and on Sunday at 2pm, 4.30, 6.00, 7.00 and 7.30pm.
For their inaugural event the Fermoy Film Club has put together a varied programme. The popular children's film 'Finding Nemo' will be shown on Saturday afternoon while the classic 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' will be shown on Saturday at 7.30 followed by the comedy hit by the famous Coen brothers, 'The Big Lebowski' starring Jeff Bridges.
"It's a varied programme. We like to promote Irish film and documentaries in particular," explained club member Kieran Barry. Three of the films have been produced by club member Frank Morgan.
The aim of the film festival he says, is "to promote cinema in Fermoy and show that while the cinema is not in action at present, it is not forgotten." They plan to get the cinema going again once new technology has been installed.
