A partnership has been agreed between Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork, and Invest Shanghai, an organisation established to promote trade with Shanghai, through the recent signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement highlights the commitment of both parties to work together and create synergies to support Irish enterprises that are interested in the Chinese market.
The MoU was signed by Cork Chamber CEO, Conor Healy, who was part of the first Cork delegation to Shanghai since 2019. The mission was led by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Kieran McCarthy, with Cork Chamber leading the business pillar of this visit.
The main elements of the collaboration include establishing communication channels for facilitating trade and investment and providing assistance for the entry of businesses and products from each region into the local market. The MoU will see the joint hosting of economic forums and seminars and the promotion of high-level visits and personnel exchanges between industry, associations and companies. In essence, the partnership will encourage and support two-way investment by companies from both regions.
Commenting on the Agreement, the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Kieran McCarthy, said: “Cork City Council was delighted to partner with Cork Chamber of Commerce on the engagement with Invest Shanghai on the first in-person visit to our twinned city of Shanghai since the pandemic. The impact of our city’s international outreach is massively amplified through our co-operation with valued partners like Cork Chamber, and the Agreement between the two organisations bodes very well for the future of business connections between Cork and Shanghai.”
