For the past decade, the St Fanahan's Fame Game show has gone from strength to strength and as the students from St Fanahan's College in Mitchelstown prepare for their special tenth year anniversary show, they are pulling out all the stops.

Drama teacher, Enda McCafferty said that the show has become a big annual event in the school calendar and for the wider community. Since it first started, it has changed so much, growing from a singing show to an all round talent show, with everything from drama, music to mime and everything in between.

This year's show will see more than 20 acts take to the stage and Ms McCafferty said that the students are so dedicated to the show, that the teachers have often come in to see them rehearsing as early as 8am.

POSITIVE STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Music teacher Cliona Kelleher added that taking part in shows like this is great for students' confidence and it also helps them to form new friendships. "It's an excellent way for them to develop creative talent and the new Principal, Tadhg Long and all of the staff are really supportive and helpful," she said.

The principal said that this will be his first Fame concert and from what he has heard from rehearsals so far, there are some very impressive acts to look forward to. "Arts and music are very important for the development of students and while academic development is very important, it's essential that we embrace the overall development of students through things like this," Mr Long said.

Shannon Murphy of The Voice of Ireland fame will be a guest judge on the night, joined by two others and each ticket holder will also get a voting ticket, so that the audience can vote for their favourite act.

The principal added that there are definitely future performers amongst those taking to the stage on the night and it's great to have someone like Shannon Murphy to show them where their potential might take them some day. The show takes place on Friday, December 13 in the school hall at 7pm and tickets on the door are €7 for adults, €5 for students and a family ticket is available at the discounted price of €20. All are welcome.
