Dr Noelle Quann was shortlisted from over 700 nominees to the final three in the community category at the 6th annual Volunteer Ireland Awards which were held on National Volunteer Day on Thursday, December 5 in City Hall Dublin.

The Fermoy-based GP was recognised for her involvement in the Lismore Community First Response programme which she co-founded and helps run. Noelle was accompanied to the awards by David Kiely, the training and lead coordinator of LCFR and Marie Reilly, an emergency first responder with LCFR.

The awards ceremony was hosted by RTE presenter Keelin Shanley and featured music from the Dublin Sax Quartet and The LineUp Choir.

The overall award for Volunteer of the Year 2013 went Waterford's away - to the most deserving Declan and Daryl Barry of Waterford Marine Search and Rescue. Their story was considered truly inspirational by the judges.

The Waterford contingent was out in force that night, with John Power from Dunmore East also receiving special recognition for his tireless work with the Dunmore East Tidy Towns.
