On the Eve of St Patrick’s Day an Irish NGO took centre stage at the United Nations in New York, as CEO and founder of the Sanctuary Runners, Fermoy resident Graham Clifford, presented to the ‘Group of Friends of Sport for Peace and Sustainable Development’ at the UN.
The Sanctuary Runners use running, jogging and walking to bring together asylum seekers, refugees and wider society. The Irish solidarity-through-sports initiative, established in Cork in 2018, now has groups in 29 locations across Ireland and in London with plans to expand further.
An enthusiastic Mr Clifford spoke to The Avondhu on Wednesday, relaying the interest in the concept from other countries.
