The people of Mitchelstown rallied together in the past week to make an appeal for action by Cork County Council on the collapsed building at 49 Upper Cork Street.
The town was very well represented at a meeting in the Town Hall and following a hugely positive and united meeting, a formal letter has been sent to the council demanding that a representative come to Mitchelstown to see the reality of the effect of the building on the town and its citizens.
Representatives from Mitchelstown Business Association, the Community Council, the Leisure Centre and the Enterprise Centre along with representatives from both CBS schools and the elderly community, Upper Cork Street business representatives, The Lions Club and An Garda Síochána were in attendance. Joining them were representatives from the church, and councillors Deirdre O’Brien, Kay Dawson, Noel McCarthy, and Frank O’Flynn.
A formal letter on behalf of all these assembled groups was written on Friday to James Fogarty, Divisional Manager for North Cork, Cork County Council, inviting him to Mitchelstown.
