Just when we thought we lost it, The Avondhu can reveal that Indiependence is coming home. The music festival is returning to Deer Farm on the Dublin Road for the August Bank Holiday 2022, keeping the tradition alive for another year.
One of Ireland’s longest-running and most successful festivals, the music extravaganza was last held in Mitchelstown in August 2019. First held at the site in 2010, the festival brings up to 15,000 revellers to the area in a 3-day festival of music and entertainment.
Michael O’Shea, Mitchelstown business owner and recent purchaser of Deer Farm, said he was glad to be involved.
“I’m delighted to be able to facilitate the return of Indie back home – I can’t wait to see what August 2022 brings to the town.”
MD of Indie, Shane Dunne, is also looking forward to bringing the music home.
“It’s been such a hard time for everyone in our industry, we’re really looking forward to some green shoots of hope and getting back to INDIE in Mitchelstown. It’s a great boost for the town, a great boost for so many businesses, and we hope they all benefit from large numbers of attendees next summer back in town”
The festival began life in 2006 around Mitchelstown's venues and market square, and its move to a new site on the northern outskirts of town four years later, put the event on the international festival map.
Over the years, artists such as Manic Street Preachers, Public Enemy, Lewis Capaldi, Bastille and Basement Jaxx, along with some of Ireland's finest live acts including The Coronas, Hozier, Kodaline and Lyra.
Ticket details and the first line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
