The world renowned soprano Cara O’Sullivan, who died on Tuesday, has been remembered with fondness throughout her native city and county.

What is worth noting is that Cara O’Sullivan made her debut performance in Franz Lehar’s ‘The Merry Widow’ with Fermoy Choral Society back in the day.

Paying their own tribute, the Society stated: “We are devastated to hear of the untimely passing of the incomparable Cara O’Sullivan. Cara played the lead role in our 1988 production of The Merry Widow.

“She then went on to win the RTE Musician of the Year in 1990 which propelled her to stardom. Lucky are those who got to share the stage with her. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís. Rest in Peace Cara Diva.”
