Kilworth native and jump jockey, Johnny Allen recorded a significant victory Down Under, when piloting Gotta Take Care to victory in the Brendan Drechsler Hurdle at Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

Allen has struck up an amazing partnership with the nine year old gelding, who on winning his 20th race by a six length  margin, this time over 2m, has now amassed prize money of over $1,000,000. He said he was the best horse he had ridden thus far.

Wade Hadley, chief steward at the course, confirmed after the race that Allen had weighed in 400 grams lighter than his starting weight. However, a 500 grams leeway for jockeys meant that everything was in order – otherwise it would have meant disqualification for Gotta Take Care.

Gotta Take Care, winner of the Galleywood Hurdle and Australian Hurdle earlier this campaign, is now in line for a $300,000 bonus if he can win the Grand National Hurdle next month. It was the horse's third successive Brendan Dreschler Hurdle victory, and his fourth win in his last five starts.

Johnny Allen now stands on the 16 winner mark for the Australian jumps season. Continued success to this young jockey.
