A local councillor has called for urgent action by the State as he revealed he is helping 25 ‘abandoned’ people living on farms in squalid conditions.
Cllr Frank Roche said that the destitute farmers are across the region, some of whom are forced to live in vans, caravans and outhouses because they are effectively homeless.
Cllr Roche, who is himself homeless, said that the problem has become much worse during Covid-19 as the vulnerable people are completely isolated from the support of their communities.
“This is a major problem which is going completely under the radar. People don’t realise this is going on at all.”
