There was a parish celebration in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown last Friday night to mark the retirement of national school teacher, Kathleen Sampson.
Kathleen taught for 22 years in Knockadea and prior to that spent 18 years in Ballylanders. She enjoyed a long and rewarding career and the high esteem in which she is held was reflected in the large crowd that attended the celebration.
Presentations were made and many tributes paid to a teacher who took her vocation very seriously and who invested considerable time and energy in all her pupils. Her colleague in Knockadea National School, Aileen O'Dwyer described her as 'a devoted and conscientious teacher who always acted in the best interest of students'.
Immediate and extended family, former colleagues and past pupils were present to share their memories of a teacher who has contributed enormously to primary school education in south Limerick.
