Sean MacCarthy is a Cork born artist and sculptor. He produces the highest quality expressive and figurative work in bronze, ceramics, oils and watercolours, pastels and various other media. His expressive portraits from life in oils, pastels, charcoal and pencil are both distinctive and unique.

He has created many spectacular works including his bronze sculpture of Bill Clinton in Ballybunion and his iconic sculpture of Christy Ring at Cork Airport. We are honoured to have such a talented artist create such a historically significant sculpture for Kilworth village.

Sean has been commissioned by the Kilworth Festival Committee to create a historical piece to be placed in the small green in the square in Kilworth village. The infamous highwayman, Willie Brennan and the history of Kilworth at that time have inspired the piece.

Sean MacCarthy is to produce a series of bronze plaques to be presented on a limestone pillar to complement the already existing stone piers that surround the village greens. A small plaza to walk around the sculpture will be built in limestone and cobblestones to reflect a long tradition of the use of these materials in the village.

On 3rd August the front bronze carving piece will be unveiled and Sean himself will be present.

Donal Clancy, son of Liam Clancy of ‘the Clancy Brothers’, whose ballad ‘Brennan on the moor’ made our Kilworth-born Willie Brennan a household name, will launch this historical project. The other three bronze plaques will give people an insight into the life in Kilworth of the 1800’s with Christy Roche, Pat O’Connor, Jim Nash and Paddy Whelan researching the historical details. The piece will be completed mid September.

Generous sponsorship has been given from Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, Dr. Seamus McCarron, Magnier Landscaping, Donal Kenneally and Fiona Turley, which has contributed to what will become an important historical feature of the village of Kilworth.

Everyone is welcome to join us in Kilworth on Sunday, 3rd August after the fancy dress parade, which commences at 6pm in the village. Our sincere thanks to our generous sponsors and contributors in this project and to our talented artist Sean MacCarthy.
