North Cork TD Sean Sherlock said that he believes Alan Kelly has learned from past mistakes and is the right man to lead his party.
Mr Sherlock backed Kelly for the leadership campaign in which the Tipperary TD received 1,047 votes, to his rival Aodhán Ó Ríordáin’s 868 votes out of a pool of 1,915 votes.
Kelly has always been a controversial figure but his stance has eased in recent years and now Deputy Sherlock, speaking to The Avondhu, believes is the right time for him to take over from Brendan Howlin.
“Alan has learned a lot over the past number of years. Nobody is infallible and it’s fair to say that we all learn from our past mistakes. I think he is the right person to lead. I wish him well for the enormity of the challenge that we all have post Covid-19.”
