Final resurfacing works were completed on Pearse Square and Fermoy Bridge last week, as the eagerly anticipated Fermoy Flood Relief Works near their conclusion.
The works on Pearse Square and the bridge were carried out at night in order to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Speaking to The Avondhu, Senior Resident Engineer of the works, Ger Barry, said final resurfacing works have begun on Ashe Quay and are expected to be fully completed by this weekend.
Traffic and parking restrictions are in place, while access is being provided to all businesses in the area, including the Grand Hotel and the Youth Centre. Full parking will be fully reinstated by this weekend, said Mr Barry.
Works on O’Neill Crowley Quay and Mill Road are progressing, and resurfacing works are due to commence on Monday, August 25. A section of the quay will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in order to accelerate the completion of these works. Lane restrictions will be in operation for the reminder of next week.
“There has been an ongoing consultation with the stakeholders, including residents, businesses, gardai and the local authority in relation to pedestrian and traffic management,” said Mr Barry.
These resurfacing works are the final large element of engineering works remaining to be completed. Other remaining works include the completion of footpaths and the street lighting.
The new toilet block on the quay, which will also include an information kiosk, are expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
