Councillors have backed a proposal to help shopkeepers prevent treacherous icy footpaths on North Cork streets. 

The move was discussed at this week’s County Council meeting following a motion from Cllr Deirdre O’Brien. 

Cllr O’Brien believes that providing salt bins for businesses would make town footpaths much safer.

“In recent icing conditions, we experienced where it was necessary for the Council to prioritise salting in major roads and public areas which meant footpaths were not salted until late morning or afternoon in many cases.”
