Cork families to recycle their old electrical and electronic waste at free collection events across the county.
From fridges to phones, laptops to lawnmowers, toys to power tools and everything in between, WEEE Ireland will take them off your hands this July and August!
Locally, the first free of charge collection will take place on Saturday, 20 July at the Mart Car Park in Fermoy, from 10am–4pm. Tesco car park in Mitchelstown will serve as drop off point on Saturday, 10 August from 10am – 4pm.
WEEE is end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment – anything with a plug or a battery! WEEE can range from old or broken fridge-freezers, washing machines, TVs, toasters and kettles, electronic tools and children’s toys, to smaller items such as mobile phones, cables, remote controls and even watches.
35,000kg of e-waste collected last year
In 2018, WEEE Ireland collected over 35,000kg of e-waste on behalf of Irish householders. That’s over 15 million old and broken appliances of all sizes diverted from landfill by Ireland’s free, national takeback scheme.
However, with new higher Irish targets kicking in from 1 January 2019, there’s even more to do this year. Even more reason for householders than ever to get out, get green, and get recycling!
All household items with a plug or a battery can be dropped off at a WEEE Ireland collection event and accepted free of charge. P
articipating householders will also be supporting LauraLynn, Irelands Children’s Hospice, with WEEE Ireland contributing to the charity as part of the ‘Small Things Matter’ campaign.
