Seeking to capitalise on their strong poll numbers with recent decision by Theresa May to call a general election, as part of their bid to strengthen their hold over power as Brexit talks officially commence in June, the Conservative Party are targeting a host of Labour-held seats across Great Britain in next month’s election.
One Tory candidate who will be hoping to secure a seat in Westminster is Jack Hickey, whose grandfather is a native of Fermoy.
Jack is the grandson of the late Jack Hickey, and son of Sean Hickey who is the fourth of five children born to Jack and Mary Hickey.
Jack (Snr) was one of six brothers who lived in John Redmond Street in Fermoy, along with Moss, Larry, Tim, Jack, Oliver and Tom, all who are now deceased. Jack’s grandfather moved to Leicester from Fermoy in 1956.
The 24-year-old teacher, who last September was elected as chairperson of the Leicester Conservatives, has been confirmed as the Tory candidate in Leicester West and will look to challenge Labour’s Liz Kendall for the seat.
