Cork Chamber is delighted to welcome Icelandic WOW air to the region following Wednesday’s announcement by Cork Airport of a new exciting all year round service between Cork and Reykjavik with onward connection to eight destinations across the US and Canada from May 2017.
Commenting on the news, Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO said the opening of a direct service between Cork and North America via Reykjavik is a significant boost for Cork Airport and the entire Cork region.
“Not only will this service provide affordable leisure tourism opportunities between the Southern region and exciting Iceland, the route also serves Munster with a direct, low-cost connectivity to North America which has long been a strategic ambition for Cork.
“In addition to the East Coast and Canada where we share close cultural ties, connectivity to Reykjavik opens Cork to the US West Coast where we have a strong and growing enterprise base and which has consistently remained top of the wish-list for both businesses and tourists.”
Concluding, he said Cork Chamber wishes to compliment the strategic vision of the team at Cork Airport through the delivery of these routes, and encourage all air users in the South of Ireland to support WOW air to ensure that Cork maintains this as a long term sustainable route to North America.
