December 17th marks the 46 anniversary of the official opening of the Top Hat Ballroom in Fermoy, at the time one of the most modern and luxurious ballrooms in the county Cork.

Many of Ireland’s best-known musicians played at the Top Hat located on the outskirts of the town where Riordan’s SuperValu is now based. A press report in advance of its opening described the Top Hat as being ‘one of the newest and most up-to-date ballrooms in the county’.

The approach to this new luxury ballroom is straight through the main street in Fermoy. It is immediately and easily accessible by a large section of the dancing community of a wide and varied clientele in County Cork.
