A Strategic Housing Development for 374 units in the Fermoy area is undergoing pre-application consultations with An Bord Pleanala.

The development of 224 houses and 150 apartments is sought, along with a crèche facility and all associated site works for the Coolcarron townland of Fermoy.

The case is currently in the consultation phase before a planning application is made, with a decision on whether plans can proceed, due in July.

Cumnor Construction Ltd, the applicant, cites general contracting as a ‘core activity’ on their website and has carried out works for a number of local authorities and Government departments previously.

Some previous works carried out by the company include the extension and fit-out of a new Garda station for the OPW in Glanmire and the construction of a new Credit Union building in Bishopstown.

Speaking with The Avondhu, local councillor Noel McCarthy said he welcomed news of the potential development.

“I welcome any new housing development in Fermoy and I welcome it wholeheartedly, because we have a shortage of housing here. Hopefully, we can get the green light on this soon,” Cllr McCarthy said.
