Public transport improvements are being called for as a local teenager attending school in Waterford was left stranded in Cahir at the weekend and was told ‘get off the bus’ as he was 30cent short for his fare.

The 16-year-old, Charlie O’Meara, often uses public transport, and when he discovered he was short 30c of the fare from Cahir to Fermoy, he was told to leave the bus, leaving him with no way home.

When asked to comment by The Avondhu, Bus Éireann said it “advises drivers to allow carriage of minors and vulnerable passengers if unable to tender the correct fare.”

Speaking with The Avondhu, Charlie’s father Cian, is now calling for improvements to the public bus service to allow for a more attractive and enhanced service.
