Over 1,640 people are on the Fermoy Municipal housing waiting list but there are only 19 houses available.

A meeting of the council heard that of the figure of 1,646 approved housing applicants, 524 people were waiting for a one-bedroom house, 593 required a two-bed, 449 needed a three-bed, 79 looked for a four-bed and one family were waiting for a five-bedroom house.

Cllr June Murphy slammed the report saying there is no plan of action and she is 'deeply concerned' for the people in need of housing.

Cllr Noel McCarthy said it was a serious housing crisis. “I get more calls about housing than anything else. If one person gets a house a number of people will ring me to say I let them down because they didn’t get it."
