Fifteen year old Aileen Kent, a student at Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown has just been announced a runner up in the Eason Creates competition.
Aileen is one of over 400 secondary students who submitted their short story creations on a subject of their choice to www.easons.com. The Eason panel of book experts shortlisted an amazing collection of 18 short stories as finalists in the Eason Creates Writing Competition. The 18 finalists have had their stories published in an e-book by Kobo, which will be available soon on easons.com.
Aileen was one of three to represent their county as finalists in the junior category with their respective stories about love, social media and an action mission. They received the backing of their communities with over 5,000 people nationwide picking their favourite stories in the public vote.
Hannah Kennedy from Rathfarnham, Dublin and Oyanne Gaham from Stillorgan, Co. Dublin were announced as the two overall winners.
Louise O’Neill commented: “It is so inspiring to see this level of talent from these young writers. What an achievement by Aileen, John and David to be published authors at such a young age. My advice for any other future author is write, write and write some more! There is a story in everything and whether it is in a journal or on a blog, make sure you’re writing your own story down.”
