The annual Musgrave triathlon now in its 12th year takes place on Saturday, August 31st in Farran Woods, Co Cork.
To date the event has raised a staggering €3.3 million in vital funds for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and Breakthrough Cancer Research.
The triathlon which attracts over 500 participants every year has set an even higher target for 2013, which is to raise €250,000 through this one day event. This year the public can also donate funds to the cause by purchasing travel mugs which will be available at the end of August in their local SuperValu or Centra stores. There are three difference colour mugs with both of the charities logos on them and retail at €3 each.
Funds raised from the Musgrave Triathlon have been used in the construction of the Oncology/Haematology Centre and the expansion of the emergency department at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin; the triathlon has funded research carried out by Breakthrough Cancer Research, the Cork based internationally recognised cancer research centre.
“We are really proud of our Triathlon and the incredible funds it continues to generate each year,” Martin Kelleher, managing director, Musgrave said. “Year after year, I am pleased to announce that this Triathlon continues to go from strength to strength, attracting more participants and exceeding its fundraising targets each year.
“Despite the downturn, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and Breakthrough Cancer Research continue to provide excellent care, support and research for cancer patients and their families here in Ireland. However, we must acknowledge that fundraising is difficult for these charities in these cash strapped times and I am delighted that Musgrave, together with our retail partners in SuperValu and Centra, can help raise vital funds in local communities across the country and make a great contribution to a very worthy cause.”
The triathlon involves an 800m swim, followed by a 33km cycle and a 10km run. Entry forms and advanced training schedules can be downloaded from www.musgrave-triathlon.com or by contacting Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland on 021-4803000.
