Ten-year-old Watergrasshill National School pupil, Philippa Costello has received national recognition for her art, having recently won a prize at the Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

Philippa’s work, entitled ‘My Community’ took the second prize in the 9-11 year age category and depicts the village of Watergrasshill along with its business community, amenities, features and all that happens locally in vibrant colour.

Her artwork is described by finals adjudicator, Gary Granville, Professor Emeritus of Education at the National College of Art and Design, as ‘an abstract work, through an unusual lens, in which her mapping of her community is both delightful and insightful’.
