Araglin is not the only local community to be represented at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival, as two of the competition’s 32 escorts hail from within The Avondhu region. While the belle of the ball is Araglin’s Shauna O’Sullivan, she will be joined in Tralee by Tallow’s Paul Tobin and Denis O’Sullivan, from Whitechurch.

24 year old Mr O’Sullivan, the PRO for Whitechurch Macra, was inspired to enter the fray as his family go to Kerry each year and always enjoy the festival. This year, 6 of the 32 escorts hail from the Rebel county and so, when Denis reached the interview stage in Kenmare, he found he knew a lot of the other applicants there too.

Sponsored by Barry’s of Douglas, Denis plans on having a ‘bit of a party’ in the bar and restaurant before heading down to Tralee. However, as the festival is basically ‘like a wedding every single day’, he is at the moment trying to stay as healthy as possible in preparation for the eight days of the festival obligations.
