Fermoy Orthodontics are preparing to open its doors for business this June and are hoping to bring a smile to your face by providing specialised orthodontic care to Fermoy and surrounds.

The practice will provide dedicated specialist care to patients in the area, offering not only a variety of treatments and services for those looking seeking to tune up their teeth, but also offering many services needed in tandem with orthodontic services, in-house.

Widely respected orthodontist, Dr Sinead O’Hanrahan, is at the helm of Fermoy Orthodontics and said that she is looking forward to getting involved with the community of Fermoy and providing the high level of care and service to families of the town and surrounds.

Dr O’Hanrahan has been employed by the HSE for over 28 years as a dentist and then as a working orthodontist and has been registered on the Specialist Orthodontist list with the Dental Council since 2006.

“I had a practice in Navan Orthodontics for the past 17 years. I sold it about three years ago and basically, I’ve fallen in love with Cork so I’m moving down. I have a house with my partner in Cork and this is my new venture. I’m looking forward to integrating and getting to know families,” Dr O’Hanrahan told The Avondhu.

Orthodontic treatment, for some, may call up memories of the traditional ‘train-track’ style braces, however, an advanced and varied offering at Fermoy Orthodontics will ensure that customers can select the best option for them.

Children and teenager’s offerings range from metal braces, removable braces, ceramic or clear braces and more.

Speaking with The Avondhu, Dr O’Hanrahan noted a major increase in the demand for adult orthodontic treatment in recent years.

“Adults have become far more conscious of their smile and image has become much more important. Adults’ treatments have really increased over the last five years.

“There is about a 20% increase in orthodontics through Ireland now. The demand for cosmetic treatment, as whole has increased, with an increase in adults seeking orthodontic treatment.” Dr O’Hanrahan said.

Locally, the modern clinic is set to offer adult treatments ranging from clear braces to aligner braces such as Invisalign, to fast braces developed through computer-aided design techniques.

New clients can expect their initial assessment to involve photographs, getting models of their teeth taken, x-rays and a radiological exam which will be followed by a consultation at which point a treatment plan will be put forward to the customer, which will all be done in house, in the heart of Fermoy town.

While many dentistry practises may offer orthodontic treatments, Fermoy Orthodontics is focused solely on orthodontic care and treatment, with the quality of service evidenced by Dr O’Hanrahan’s training and accreditation.

As Past President of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland, Dr O’Hanrahan is also on the Board of the Federation of European Orthodontics and is their current editor.

She is also the Irish representative of the European Federation of Orthodontic Specialists Societies and is involved in the successful bid for the European Orthodontic Society conference to be held in Dublin in 2026.

Whether it’s fixing your bite, your first attempt at straightening your smile, or simply resetting a ‘relapse’ after your braces were taken off, Fermoy Orthodontics has the answer to all your queries and qualms.

Now moving to open to clients in June, the practice is set to be one of the town’s most modern and eco-friendly clinics, as Dr O’Hanrahan has also placed emphasis on being as carbon neutral as possible.

Fermoy Orthodontics, located at 34 MacCurtain Street, will be kitted out with solar panels and will ensure to keep waste at the practice to a minimum, as Dr O’Hanrahan outlined aims to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum.
