The local Employment services team in Connolly Street, Fermoy hosted a hugely successful upskilling event in Fermoy Community Youth Centre on May 10.

The room was packed with people who came to hear about the various education and training options available.

Staff from the Department of Social Protection spoke about the various supports available to adult learners and this was followed by representatives from the College of Commerce, Mallow College of Further Education and St John’s Central College.

They outlined the vast array of courses available as well as showcasing their excellent facilities.

The Cork Education Training Board (ETB) had two speakers who outlined both the plethora of courses available free of charge as well as the huge growth in apprenticeship opportunities available.

The final speakers were from Innopharma Labs that run specific work focused Springboard courses in the food/beverage and the pharmaceutical/medical devices sectors.

At the end of the event people had an opportunity to chat individually with the speakers over refreshments. Any customers of the Department of Social Protection who wish to enquire about upskilling opportunities are welcome to contact their local case officers Cailíosa Murphy or Síle Hunt for an appointment on 022-70946.
