Stephen Flynn may be just nine years old but like his pals, he knows what is top of his list when it comes to amenities in Mitchelstown or, in this case, the lack of them.
Stephen and his friends are into skateboarding and would truly love to have a skate park in their home town. The problem they find, is having to travel to Cork or else to Ballincollig to pursue their pastime.
“I think it would be great if a skate park could be made in some place like the mart in George’s Street. I just want to have some place to go with my stunt scooter and I am sure there would be many other young people in Mitchelstown who would be very interested in this,” he told The Avondhu, adding that there are several in his school that are interested in the sport.
“They got a playground built a few years ago, maybe now they could build a skate park”
His friend Bobby Baker (10) agrees and says there are about a dozen or so that he knows would love to have a skate park in the town. While The Mart may be out of the question for a skate park, the lads maintain there are other places in town that could be used.
They are now hoping that some group like the community council or the leisure centre might set up a skate park. “They got a playground built a few years ago, maybe now they could build a skate park,” Stephen said.
