A young girl who is clearly gifted in gymnastics and trampolining recently came first in the national trampoline finals in Newry at intermediate level.

Fiona Sykes, who is in fourth class in Ballyhooly National School and will turn ten later this month, has been doing gymnastics since she was five.

She started out training in Fermoy and then moved on to work with Gymnastics Inc in Carrigaline and she started doing the trampoline just last year.

Her parents told The Avondhu that Fiona works very hard at both the gymnastics and trampolining and she would train three times a week for three hours a day, so she is fiercely committed.

They said that they are very proud of what she has achieved and they thanked her trampoline coach Dan and gymnastic coaches Anna and Jamie.
