Reports that the economy is picking up got a massive boost on Friday when Dairygold was visited by An Taoiseach at its Mallow and Mitchelstown plants to lay the foundation for an €83million plant in the former, and officially open the hugely impressive dairy processing complex at Castle Farm in Mitchelstown with its €35.5million price tag.

While the Dairygold expansion will bring with it 400 jobs during construction and an additional 115 full-time positions by 2020 to manage the increase in milk production, it will mean much more than that to the local economy. The knock-on from this is that many more jobs will be created in farming and indirectly in the businesses that supply goods and services to Dairygold.

The Taoiseach described the €120million investment as 'a massive vote of confidence by Dairygold in the capability of its milk suppliers, creating a world-class dairy manufacturing capability right here in the Munster region' - and that it surely is!
