At last, work on phase two of the remedial scheme at St Mary's Crescent, Fermoy, has been completed. Keys to the houses were handed over on Tuesday by the contractor to the town council.

The refurbishment scheme was stalled for a considerable period when the previous contractor went into receivership. The council then had to go through the whole tendering process again to engage a new one to finish the works on the 11 houses and construct a new unit.

Councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O'Donovan kept the matter on the town council's agenda throughout asking for progress reports at regular intervals and an indication of when the works would be finished. They were assured they would be done by late summer.

Cllr John Murphy this week welcomed the completion of the scheme. "This means extra houses will be allocated in the near future and existing tenants will have modern houses to live in. Everyone involved is to be congratulated," he said.
