Every day in woodwork class, students transform plain pieces of timber into functional or ornamental items and recently, students from St Fanahan's College, Mitchelstown got to see where a lot of the timber originates from with a visit to the Glennon Brothers' sawmill in Fermoy.

The second year students were delighted that Pat Glennon and his staff had taken the time out of their hectic schedules to organise and conduct a wonderful guided tour of the impressive Fermoy facility.

Pupils got to see the journey that a piece of timber goes on, before making its way to their woodwork room where they will turn it into a working product.

The tour served to bring the theory that they cover in class to life, and the teachers and pupils wish to particularly thank Kieran Connolly and Richard Lattimor, while the refreshments provided after the tour was an example of the wonderful generosity and hospitality shown to them on their visit.

"This was a great learning experience for the students and is one that few other students would get to experience," Mr Walsh, the woodwork teacher said.
