Fiona Turley Christmas cards in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research Centre will be launched on Sunday, 10 November from 2pm to 6pm at the Gallery Crafts Studio in Kilworth.

Renowned textile artist, Fiona Turley, is launching her 2013 Christmas Card Collection in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research Centre on Sunday, November 10 from 2-6pm at the Gallery Crafts Studio in Kilworth, Co Cork. All proceeds from the cards will go towards innovative research work into new treatments for cancer.

The launch event promises to be a highlight of the Christmas calendar as guests will enjoy complimentary wine and Skelligs Irish made chocolates while they are charmed by the festive atmosphere created by Gallery Crafts.

According to Helena Slattery at Breakthrough Cancer Research, a national fundraising brand that raises money for Cork Cancer Research Centre: “This is Fiona Turley’s ninth year donating her exclusive designs to cancer research and we would like to sincerely thank her for her generosity. We have set an ambitious fundraising target of €50,000 from this year’s sale of Fiona’s stunning Christmas Cards so we hope the public will buy into the idea of Christmas cards for a future free of cancer”.

Each pack of cards contains 10 large cards, with 10 different designs included in the pack. The packs are €10 each with 100% of the proceeds raised going directly to cancer research programmes.

Breakthrough Cancer Research funds the development of new treatment options for poor prognosis and incurable cancers that do not currently respond to conventional therapies. They work closely with clinicians in practice all over Ireland to significantly impact on the number of people who can survive the disease.

Research programmes funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research must focus on translating lab discoveries into new treatment opportunities and over the past 10 years they have delivered more than 5 new treatments from lab discovery to clinical trial with patients throughout Ireland. Last October one of their research programmes was identified by the prestigious worldwide publication New Scientist in their article ‘The Fightback’ as “one of the 5 most promising approaches to ending cancer”.
