The West Waterford community of Ballysaggart mobilised itself very effectively last weekend to host its annual festival.
Festivals don't run themselves and a concerted effort was required to ensure everything fell into place. All the voluntary groups in Ballysaggart did their bit and the end result was 5 hugely enjoyable days that culminated with last Sunday's vintage rally and family day in the local GAA field.
Another highpoint was Saturday night's barbecue in The Ballyveera Inn (Meagher's) which had a country and western theme. Patrons were invited to come suitably dressed and true to form a variety of cowboys/girls turned up, all hopeful of securing some of the attractive prizes on offer for those who put in the biggest effort. The standard was pretty high with plenty of rugged cowboys strutting around, frequently in pursuit of some tasty looking cowgirls.
Meagher's was transformed into a saloon for the night, complete with swinging doors and piano. A tribe of 'injuns' also dropped in as did some banditos from south of the border. Barbecue staff rustled up some tasty grub and there was plenty barn dance tunes to keep the large crowd entertained.
The festival benefited from some excellent musicians with: Edmond O'Gorman (Pacific Blue), Donie Foley and the O'Keeffe brothers all performing over the 5 days.
Organisers were very lucky with the weather and Sunday proved to be a great success, also well done to the 'mothers of Ballysaggart' who defeated their counterparts from Araglin in a football challenge match. Overall, things worked out very well during the course of the festival which managed to give everyone a lift - well done to the organisers and all those who helped out in any way.
