The overall winner of the Fermoy Area Sports and Community Awards will be announced at the gala dinner and prizegiving ceremony in the Corrrin Event Centre on this Saturday night.

The public will decide the winner, and the deadline for your votes is 5pm this Friday. Votes can be lodged, by email only, to joe@slatterytravel.ie (see list of winners below). There are still a few tickets available for the gala event and these can be had from Joe Slattery c/o Slattery Travel (086-8207378) and Noel Barnes, c/o Barnes Jewellers (086-3849698).

The event, which will have comedian Alan Shortt as MC, incudes a cheese and wine reception, pre-dinner entertainment by the Castlelyons Gospel Choir and a sumptious meal to be followed by dancing to the Kieran Kramer Band.

Award winners already chosen include John Rice (Hall of Fame), Fermoy GAA (Sports Club/Association), Michael O’Connor (Cycling), Seamus Feeney/Eimear Hayes (Special Needs), Dion McCarthy (Cycling), Orla Cotter/Grace Kearney (Female Sports Award), Adrian Heskin (Horse Racing), Fermoy Concert Band (Community Group), Christy Roche (Volunteer) and Fermoy Musical Society (Special Merit).
