The story of the recycling day that never was rumbled on at last Tuesday night's Fermoy Town Council with councillors none too happy that those charged with organising the collection, won't be back in Fermoy for 6 months.
Originally, the plan was to hold the recycling day on Saturday, 15th February in the old mart yard. However, flooding of the venue meant it was 'officially' called off.

There continues to be some debate about when the decision to call off the collection was taken but at any rate the collection agency, WEEE Ireland, are adamant a series of local radio announcements were made cancelling the event. It now transpires that some members of the public did brave the flooding to drop off electrical items in the old mart yard only for many of the items to be 'claimed' and promptly taken away by 'persons unknown'.
Cllr Tadhg O'Donovan brought the matter back on the agenda last Tuesday night but was left disappointed after being informed by town clerk Pauline Moriarty, that WEEE Ireland won't be back in Fermoy for 'at last 6 months'.
"This isn't on at all and I will predict that a lot of the electrical goods that people want to recycle will end up being dumped illegally because of this carry on," Cllr O'Donovan said.
The town clerk explained that people were free to bring unwanted electrical items to bring sites in other towns. After further exchanges with Cllr O'Donovan, she did commit to contacting WEEE Ireland again to see if their collection day in Fermoy could be brought forward.
