The Ortus Chamber Music Festival series of three concerts is scheduled to run on March 1 and 2, one of them in the First Fruits Arts Centre, Watergrasshill on Saturday evening, March 2.
The festival will feature some of the best Irish musicians as well as their international colleagues from the US, the UK and the Netherlands.
The programme for the Watergrasshill recital is as follows: Beethoven Clarinet Trio in B flat major Op.11 featuring Jessie Grimes (clarinet), Sinéad O’Halloran (cello) and Michael McHale (piano); Agnew ‘I want to tell you…’ featuring Patrick Rafter (violin) and Sinéad O’Halloran (cello); Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time featuring Jessie Grimes (clarinet), Patrick Rafter (violin), Sinéad O’Halloran (cello) and Michael McHale (piano).
Before the main concert in Watergrasshill there will be a short concert given by music students from Cork ETB School of Music, starting at 7.15pm. Tickets: €15/€12.
AULA MAXIMA
The festival gets under way on Friday, March 1st at Aula Maxima, University College, Cork.
The programme here will be made up of Dohnany’s piano quintet no. 1 in C minor Op. 1 and Schumann’s piano quintet in E flat major Op. 44, both featuring Mairéad Hickey (violin), William Hagen (violin), Timothy Ridout (viola), Ella van Poucke (cello) and Michael McHale (piano). 8pm – tickets €15/12.
COBH
On Saturday afternoon at 2pm, the Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh will host a recital that will feature Beethoven’s String Trio in C minor Op. 9 with Mairéad Hickey (violin), Timothy Ridout (viola) and Ella van Poucke (cello); Sean Doherty ‘No Go’ for uilleann pipes and String Quartet with Mairéad Hickey (violin), William Hagen (violin), Timothy Ridout (viola), Ella van Poucke (cello) and Fergal Breen (Uilleann Pipes) and Dvorak’s String Quartet no 12 in F major ‘American’ Op. 96 with Mairéad Hickey (violin), William Hagen (violin), Timothy Ridout (viola) and Ella van Poucke (cello). 2pm – €18/15.
