On the 24th May, the public will get a chance to vote on the local and European elections but also on a proposal to have a directly elected mayor.
All councillors in the Dungarvan/Lismore District are opposed to the proposal and all aired their opinions at the district meeting last Monday.
Cllr Declan Doocey from Lismore is the current Mayor of Waterford City and County Council and feared if the mayor was directly elected, an unsuitable person could be appointed to the role.
