Visitors to Limerick are receiving an extra warm welcome as volunteer ‘Gathering’ ambassadors take to the streets of the city this summer and extra volunteers are being sought. Limerick boasts one of Ireland’s most comprehensive Gathering programmes with 147 festivals and events taking place throughout the city and county.

Speaking at the launch of the Gathering Volunteer Ambassador Programme in Limerick, Mary Killeen Fitzgerald (Limerick co-ordinator) said: “We are delighted to be able to participate in the Gathering Volunteer Ambassador Programme and showcase the range of quality Gathering events taking place in Limerick this year. People who are passionate about their area’s attractions, traditions or culture can still register to be part of the programme and help welcome visitors to Limerick City Ireland throughout the busy tourist season.”

Volunteers must be 18 or over, have fluent English and should be available to volunteer for one two-hour shift per week from Wednesday through Sunday. Interested? Then visit www.volunteer.ie/events/thegathering or call Volunteer Ireland on 01-6369446 to apply.

The first half of 2013 has already seen a number of significant Gathering events held throughout Limerick and among the coming attractions will be ‘A Week of Welcomes in Kilmallock from July 12-21 and ‘Angela’s Ashes – The Musical’ in Limerick’s Lime Tree Theatre (14-21 July).

Details on other Gathering events taking place in Limerick are available on www.gatheringireland.com.
