Urgent call for Cork Road traffic problem in Fermoy to be resolved

A serious traffic management problem, which has existed in one area of Fermoy for many years, now needs urgent action by Cork County Council to resolve the situation.

Cork County Council is to be asked to resolve a serious traffic management problem on the section of road between the Cork Road traffic lights and the entrance to the Liam MacGearailt Estate in Fermoy.

Cllr Michael Hanley had a motion passed at the December meeting of Fermoy Town Council, calling on the county council to pursue a course of action aimed at resolving what he termed “A very serious traffic management problem” associated with that section of road.

NOW A “NECESSITY”

Cllr Hanley said he was involved in an attempt to resolve the problem 15 years ago. It’s a necessity now, he stressed, adding that local councillors and local people shouldn’t be involved in the issue, that it should be dealt with by the highest level of Cork County Council.

Cllr Pa O’Driscoll agreed. Pointing out that he lives in the area, he described the situation there as “fairly chaotic now at all times of the day.” Cllr Noel McCarthy agreed, going on to compliment Cork County Council on its traffic calming measures on the Duntaheen Road.

Cllr Olive Corcoran was in favour of the motion, provided any measures taken don’t involve taking part of the Liam MacGearailt Estate. “People there don’t want part of their estate taken away. As long as people there aren’t railroaded,” she said.
